Herman Boyd "Sonny" Crockett, 73 year old Woodward, Oklahoma resident died Monday, September 8, 2014 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday September 11, 2014 in the First Assembly of God Church with Reverend Donnetta Hunter officiating. A grave side service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 13, 2014 in Lyons Municipal Cemetery in Lyons, Kansas with Reverend Ron DeVore officiating. A receiving of friends will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons, Kansas. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Herman Boyd Crockett was born to Herman Delbert and Lois Maurice (King) Crockett in Morton, Texas on December 15, 1940. At the age of nine, Sonny and his family moved to Ellinwood, Kansas, where Herman attended Ellinwood schools. From 1961-1966, Herman served in the United States Navy on the Carrier, USS Midway seeing duty off Vietnam. After being Honorably Discharged, he returned home and went to work for Pepsi before entering the oilfield. While working at Pepsi, Herman met and married Judi Poland on February 18, 1968. In 1969, the family moved to Woodward, Oklahoma where Herman worked as a salesman in the oilfield. In 1976, the family moved to Canadian, Texas living there for the next 11 years before returning to Woodward where they still reside. Herman was a member of the Woodward Elks Lodge #1355 and the Woodward Moose Lodge. His favorite things were family gatherings, being with his buddies throughout Oklahoma and Texas, drinking coffee and exchanging tall tales about their fishing exploits. Herman also enjoyed hunting, and in the last few years fishing and visiting the casinos. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Judi of the home; four children, Darci Lynn Douglass and husband Terry of Perry, Oklahoma; Daryn Boyd Crockett of Norman, Oklahoma; Devlyn Arthur Crockett of Austin, Texas; Daci Sarita Crockett and Alan Fletcher of Woodward, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Pat Bell and husband Keith of Brownsville, Texas; Twilla Birzer and husband Melvin of Great Bend, Kansas; one brother, Randy Wayne Crockett of Sharon, Kansas; aunt, Lou Bridges of Abilene, Texas; cousin, Linda Sheppard of St. Mary's, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Woodward High School Band, or St. Jude's Children Hospital with the Billings Funeral Home of Woodward, Oklahoma or the Birzer Funeral Home of Lyons, Kansas accepting the contributions. from Birzer Funeral Home Thursday 11 Sept 2014
