Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent March 1988 Samuel R. Mars, 69, of ...., died Friday, March 25. Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. John Reehl will officiate. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be ...in Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home... Mr. Mars was born April 26, 1918, at Burwell, the son of James and Ethel Dent Mars. He received his education at Burwell and worked in Colorado. He married Erma Marshall on Aug. 22, 1942, at Grant. He was a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge he moved to Burwell. He moved to Grand Island to make his home in the early 1950's. He worked at Missouri Valley, the Cornhusker Ordnance Plant and was working at Werners Construction as a heavy equipment operator at the time of his illness. Mrs. Mars died in 1978. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a former member of the American Legion and VFW. Survivors include three sons, Ernest of Moore, Okla., Albert of Reno, Nev., and Robert of Grand Island; one daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Phylis) Crowell of Doniphan; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Eula Sarnowski of Ellsinore, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.
