AURORA — Ed Wilkins, 85, of Aurora passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Refreshments will be served at the church immediately following the service. Private family interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of the arrangements. Edward Carlyle Wilkins, the son of Lyal and Helen M. (Macek) Wilkins, was born on the family ranch in Cherry County on June 10, 1929. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Naomi of Aurora; a daughter and son-in-law, Kate and Len Wilhelm of Beatrice; and a son and daughter-in-law, Edward Scott and Rita Wilkins of Lincolnshire, Ill. He is also survived by several grandchildren, a great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Edna; and a sister, Eileen Shields. Ed grew up on the family ranch near Nenzel. He graduated from Valentine High School in 1947. Ed attended diesel mechanic classes at a trade school in Milford and served in the U.S. Army for two years in Germany during the Korean War. Ed was united in marriage to Edna Zwiebel on Nov. 27, 1957, at Papillion. After their marriage they lived on the family ranch near Nenzel, Waterloo and Elm Creek, prior to moving to Aurora, where they eventually opened EW Auto Supply. Ed and Edna were married 42 years. After Edna’s death in 2000, Ed met Naomi (Mick) Brandt and they were married July 2, 2004, in Aurora. Ed and Naomi shared 10 years of marriage.
