Bio

Nadine L. Evensen, 73, of Billings, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, due to a fire in her home. Nadine was born on Aug. 26, 1940, in Willow Lake, S.D., to Ralph and Caroline Dirksen. She grew up in Conde, S.D., with her parents; four brothers, Howard, Harold, Darrell and Dean; and her two sisters, Rose Marie (Harris) and Kay (Wheeler). She made her first move to Billings in 1975, and, throughout her life, lived and forged relationships in various cities, such as Rapid City, Missoula, Thompson Falls, and eventually, returned to Billings permanently in 1999. Once back in Billings, she started the business that would bring her years of pride and fulfillment, Companion Home Care. In addition to the relationships she formed with the elderly in her care, she also made lifelong bonds with their children and relatives that often came to visit. Some of her favorite hobbies included gardening, sewing, crocheting, doing the daily crossword puzzles and socializing with friends. She was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed the camaraderie of playing on a team. She had an enduring passion for dancing and, as a 12-year member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, she would often go to the club and enjoy the company of other’s with the same passion. Nadine had a strong Christian faith and was a very spiritual person. She loved to sing hymns during the services she attended and would often sing or hum the around the house. She expressed her faith in the kind acts and love she gave to everyone she met. She cherished her roles as a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She could always be counted on for supportive advice, encouragement, a needed voice of reason and, often, just a listening ear. She is survived by her son, Gregory (Kari) Loterbauer, Billings; grandchildren, Jennifer Loterbauer, Anaheim, Calif., Chad Dell, Rapid City, S.D., Sara Loterbauer, Lincoln, Ill., Kelsey Fox, Jeni Fox and Jacob Fox, Billings; great-grandchildren, Kierstyn Dell, Inwood, Iowa, Ebony Loterbauer, O’Fallon, Illinois; sister, K. Wheeler, Carson, Calif.; brother, Dean Dirksen, Zortman, Mont.; and nieces and nephews, Janelle Wilert, Ward Dirksen, Daelyn Dirksen, Doreen Dirksen, Marlan Goodwin, Marlene Goodwin-Ramirez, Marsha Goodwin Applebury and Mark Goodwin; her beloved dog, Boo; and so many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Caroline; her daughter, Jeannine (Loterbauer) Dell; her brothers, Howard, Harold and Darrell; and her sister, Rose Marie (Dirksen) Harris. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, in the chapel located at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary and Crematory, 1001 Alderson Ave., Billings, MT 59102. A reception will be held after the service. Location will be announced at the service.
