Bio

Roger Clay Florida, 81, of Coupland, Texas went to his heavenly home on February 24, 2006 in Georgetown, Texas after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 17, 1925 in Buda, Texas to William and Ruth (Johnson) Florida. On September 18, 1949, he married Irene Zulauf at St. Peter's Church in Coupland, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Arkansas during World War II. After military service he completed Dunaway School of Accounting and pursued a lifetime career in marketing and sales. He retired from Bic Corporation as Zone Manager. His career required numerous relocations but San Antonio was home for 43 years with a second home in Coupland for 30 of those years. In 2003 he made a permanent move to Coupland. He was an active member of St. Peter's Church of Coupland where he had served on the Church Council and was a member of the Men's Brotherhood. He was a member of the Texas Limousin Association and the National Limousin Foundation. Roger will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Survivors are Irene, his spouse for 56 years, daughter Katherine Ann Burkholder and husband Gary of San Antonio, Texas; two grandsons, Chris Clark, Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina and Cameron Keddy Clark of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Wren Groeschel and husband Leonard of Houston, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elton and Alvera Zulauf of Austin, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Providence Funeral Home. Funeral Services were Monday, February 27, 2006 at St. Peter's Church of Coupland, Coupland, Texas with Dr. John Sumner officiating. Burial followed at St. Peter's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Aniol, Dr. Bill Cunningham, John Israel, Otto Riedel, Jr., Troy Tanner, and Byron Zulauf. [Published in the Austin American-Statesman on 2/26/2006.]
