Rupert Theodore Kokes,51 September 10, 1904 ~ April 13, 1956 Rupert was born to Anton and Mary (Perkins) Kokes. The family spoke Bohemian at home. Rupert graduated from Tekamah High, and then studied pharmacy. On Feb. 9, 1928, Rupert married Miss Cecil May Morgan at her parents' home in Rising City, Nebraska. It was a lovely wedding, with dark red roses and smilax, and the bride's sister sang. In December, 1937, Rupert was the pharmacist and owner of the only drug store in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska. The Omaha January 8, 1938 Omaha World Herald reported a robbery, in the course of which Rupert and his wife were left tied up with wire. The thief was later sentenced to the Nebraska State Penitentiary, but a March 27, 1938 Omaha newspaper had an ad for a quick sale of that pharmacy. The 1940 US Census shows Rupert and Cecil living in Idaho. Rupert was a pharmacist, and the couple had been blessed with a 5 month old baby, Carolyn, born in Idaho. Rupert died in San Bernadino, California, on April 13, 1956. Final note: In 1958, a Lincoln, Nebraska city directory lists Cecil, the widow of Rupert, and Carolyn living at 6211 Hartley St., in Lincoln, where Carolyn was living at home but attending school. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sources: National Archives, which included Nebraska newspaper clippings as well as US Census reports and a California Death Notice. A special thanks to volunteer kokesm who posted the photos of the newspaper clippings to the Archives. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
