Bio

Graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1945. The family had moved frequently when Melvin was a child and he had lived in Creston, Iowa; Omaha, Nebraska and Salt Lake City, Utah. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1945 and was stationed in China before being honorably discharged in 1947. He married Antonia Schroeder in Kiel, Wis. The couple lived in Grand Island and he co-owned the Canteen Vending Company and The Jug Store. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council and Board of Christian Education. He was survived by his wife; a son, Glenn Arnold; daughters, Cindy and Lisa; a brother, Clifford and a sister, Phyllis Synhorst of Toledo, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; and a brother, Reuben Arnold.
