Raymond was born February 13, 1925 in Lookeba, Oklahoma to John Wesley and Leona (Austell) Cox and passed away on August 9, 2014, at The Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Raymond was raised in Olustee, Oklahoma as a boy than moved to Eakly, Oklahoma when he was 10 years old where he attended school. He worked in Eakly before joining the Army on April 1944. He was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He served during World War II in Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe Battles, was captured in the Battle of the Bulge and was a prisoner of war in Germany. In the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign he was presented with 3 Bronze Stars. In World War II he was presented the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart. Raymond married Develya Lee on January 1, 1946. They were married for 65 years and 11 months and were blessed with five daughters. Raymond was a longtime farmer raising peanuts, cotton, wheat, and cattle. He was also an entrepreneur. He was one of the first to bring irrigation to Caddo County and also in extracting silver from x-rays to be used for fine silver and jewelry. He worked his entire life to see that his daughters and generations to come were provided for. He retired in 1990 and enjoyed travel, family, and cared for his mother until her passing. He enjoyed going to farm sales, served on town board, and was a member of the Eakly Co-op. Raymond was a member of the Eakly Assembly of God Church. Memorials may be made to the Eakly Cemetery, Wounded Warriers, or the Charity of your Choice. Raymond is survived by Five daughters; Shirlene Sheward and husband Rick of Weatherford, OK, Diana Wells and husband Joe of Mustang, OK, Joy Newton and husband Dan of Guthrie, OK, Shirley Derryberry and husband Burt of Central High, OK, and Sue Reeves of Weatherford, Oklahoma. One Brother: Bobby Cox and his wife Janelle of Shawnee, OK. Three Sister-in-laws: Thelma Cox of Shawnee, OK, Barbara Lee of Blanchard, OK, and Merrily Lee of Fresno, CA. One Brother-in-law: Elga Lee of Hanford, CA. Eleven Grandchildren: Gayla Pearce, Darin and Judy Sharry, Lance and Jamie Wells, Kristi and Shane Watkins, Brandon and Martha Wells, Staci Bowles, Kelli and Ramey Baker, Danny and Jenna Derryberry, Jennifer and Steve Becker, Ashlee and Daniel Townsend, and Courtney and Bryan McKevitt. Twenty Six great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren plus several bonus. Three Nephews and One Niece He was preceded in death by his wife Develya, Parents John and Leona, Brother, Ronald, Son-in-law Robert Reeves, and Grandson-in-law Dean Bowles. Funeral services for Johney Raymond Cox, 89 year old Eakly, Oklahoma resident, were held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. in the Eakly Assembly of God Church. Leading the funeral procession were the Patriot Riders. Burial was at Eakly Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
