Bio

OBITUARY Aldrich Janicek was born on March 9, 1895, at Omaha, Nebraska. When he was one year old, his parents moved west and settled in Custer county, later moving to Loup county. Here Aldrich grew into young manhood and entered the Army during World War I. After his discharge from the Army, he started farming for himself on a farm east of Burwell. On April 26, 1921, he was united in marriage to Emma Moravecek. He and his bride continued to reside on this farm until his death. He passed away on Saturday, September 25th at the age of 53 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. His father passed away in June, 1932, and his mother on August 13, 1948, just six weeks ago. He is survived by his wife; one brother, Frank; three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Roubicek, Verdigu, Mrs. Emma Drobny, Chico, Calif., and Mrs. Ella Tuma of Sacramento, Calif. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Congregational Church, with the Rev. Hindmand in charge. A full military funeral was conducted with Clifford Clark Post 294 in charge, also furnishing the pall bearers. Interment was in Burwell Cemetery. * * * * * Aldrich Janicek Funeral on Monday - - - - - Body of Well-Known Farmer Found in Yard at His Home Saturday Eve - - - - - The many friends of the Aldrich Janicek family were shocked Saturday evening when word came to the effect that the body of Mr. Janicek had been found, at his home, a victim of gunshot wounds. Mr. & Mrs. Janicek were in Burwell Saturday, and Mr. Janicek returned home some time in the afternoon. Mrs. Janicek had been detained in town for a while. When Mrs. Janicek was ready to go home and she could not locate her husband, she, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Janicek, John Janicek, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Janicek, drove to the Aldrich Janicek farm home to ascertain what was the trouble. Upon making a thorough search of the place, the body was found on the northwest corner on the outside of the yard, a victim of gunshot wounds from a 16-gauge shotgun, at about 8 pm. Dr. Roy S. Cram was called at once, as was the Burwell fire department, but upon Dr. Cram's arrival, he pronounced Mr. Janicek dead, having been dead some three to four hours when found. Upon talking with the family this morning, the writer learned that they had been having considerable difficulty with coons bothering their chickens, and that Mr. Janicek had killed several coons from the tree near where his body was found. It is also reported that when found, the body was lying on a considerable amount of trash, making the possibility that while trying to locate a coon, the deceased might have stumbled over the trash causing the gun to discharge.
