Bio
Minnie Averilla Maxey Hargrave, 78, passed away Aug. 1 at Grace Home in Shreveport, La. She was raised in Corrigan, Texas by parents Robert and Helon Youngblood Maxey. Minnie retired from teaching at Corrigan-Camden Elementary School in 2003. Two years later, she moved into Montclair Assisted Living Facility in Shreveport. She was married to Jeffries Maurice Hargrave on Dec. 7, 1956, in Houston after dating a short time. They lived in Houston many years before moving back to Corrigan in 1982. Together they owned and operated Sweet Dreams Sleep Shop in Lufkin, Tx. before Jeff's untimely death in 1999. Minnie enjoyed life and found peace in God's creations. Even in her last days, her smile and gentle spirit delighted her caregivers. She had a strong faith and love for her family and friends. She was proud to talk about and show pictures of her daughters and grandchildren. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 50 years and Queen of the Red Hat Society for nearly a decade. She loved her churches, keeping membership at Angel of Joy Lutheran Church in Lufkin but attending Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Shreveport. Minnie is survived by two daughters, Starlet Agrella and husband Mark of The Woodlands, TX, and Kacee Kirschvink and husband Michael of Shreveport; four grandsons, Austin and Garrett Agrella and Cameron and Kevin Kirschvink; two sisters, Betty Hagerty and husband Frank of Corrigan and Robbie Parrish of Corrigan, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at Corrigan Funeral Home, 204 E. Front St. in Corrigan. Memorial service will be held at Angel of Joy Lutheran Church, 4003 Daniel McCall Drive, in Lufkin, with burial immediately afterward at Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan.
