Bio

Lila Dell Gauntt Lyon, 94, went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 12, 2017. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2017, at Rosemound Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, May 14, at Bellmead Funeral Home. Lila was born on September 8, 1922 in Mt. Calm, Texas to William Henry and Maggie Mae (Davis) Gauntt. She was the fourth of eight children. Lila Dell attended schools in Mart and Riesel and played basketball in Riesel in high school. She married Charles Wayne Lyon on October 7, 1939. Together they operated Lyon's Garage. Until her Alzheimer diagnosis, Lila Dell was active in the Oaklawn community and Oaklawn Baptist Church. She always enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting and she served as an election judge for many years. Her greatest joy was in taking care of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, infant daughter, six siblings, parents, and an infant great-grandson. Lila Dell is survived by her four children and spouses, Charles Dean and Joyce Lyon, Janice and Charles Morgan, Sharon and Max Burnett and Karen and Dazell Rankin; sister, Jewel Pitts; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Greenview Manor staff and Interim Hospice for their loving care. Memorials may be made to any charity of your choice or Oaklawn Baptist Church.
