Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Helen was born in Neches, Texas, to the late Marvin and Floy Perkins. She married Theodore "Ted" Charles Lucenay on November 8, 1947. They were married 57 years. A Cadet Nurse Corps graduate from Providence Hospital, Waco, Texas, Helen earned an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1947. She shared her love for people, medical knowledge and compassionate touch with many patients. Those settings included: James Connally Air Force Base, private duty, labor and delivery-Hillcrest Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Hospital Psychiatric Unit for many years. In 1978, Helen furthered her education, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She was soon named the Infection Control Nurse for the Veterans Administration Hospital until her retirement, February 14, 1996. Helen has been a faithful, active member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, Waco. She served as Sunday school teacher for several classes. Helen loved her Bible and searching for the Scriptures' deeper meanings was her fascination. She became a Bible Study Fellowship Leader and continued to be a part of that group, as a leader as well as a participant. Helen also was active in three Bible studies a week up until her illness in May. When asked her favorite book, she would always answer, "The Bible. It is God's Holy Word and our love letter inspired by God himself."
