Schulenburg Sticker, 29 May 2014 James Vacek Staff Sgt. James Vacek (retired), 91, of Prince George, Va. passed away on Monday, May 19 at his residence. Born in Schulenburg on July 16, 1922, he was the son of the late John and Mary Stuckly Vacek. Mr. Vacek retired from the United States Army, was a member of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post 284 for 22 years and the Hopewell Moose for 49 years, and a lifelong member of the Blackwater Hunt Club, Prince George, Va. He also retired after 25 years as a greens superintendent from the Cardinal Club Golf Course at Fort Lee, Va. Mr. Vacek enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 67 years; a son and daughter-in-law of Prince George, Va.; and a brother and sister-in-law; a sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of Schulenburg. A funeral service was held on Friday, May 23 at 1 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory. Entombment followed in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Va. with military honors. An American Legion service was held on Thursday, May 22 at 6 p.m., with visitation afterward, at the funeral home.
