A resident of San Antonio for over 50 years, Mr. Arnett was a member of Patterson Lodge No. 1177, AF&AM, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Alzafar Shrine. "Tiny" was 6'4" tall. Veteran S.A. Ex-Policeman Dies at Age 75 Long-time San Antonio policeman Mason S. "Tiny" Arnett died early Wednesday at the age of 75. Arnett retired from the San Antonio Police Department in 1959 after directing traffic at Houston and St. Mary's streets for many years. Arnett died about 2 a.m. at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Services are pending at Alamo Funeral Home. Arnett joined the police department in 1923 after leaving Ft. Sam Houston. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native was popular among persons working and shopping downtown because of his friendly, pleasant manner. Affectionately dubbed the "policeman philosopher," Arnett once said: "I believe a policeman should be judged not by the amount of wholesale arrests he makes, but how well he preserves law and order." During his 36 years as a policeman, Arnett never shot or beat a man with a blackjack, but he was shot, stabbed and beaten over the head with a car jack. His survivors include his widow, Mrs. Victoria Helen Arnett of San Antonio. -- The San Antonio Light , Wed., Aug. 31, 1977, p.7-C
