Bio
Buelah Agnes Mays was the first born of Franklin M Mays 1837-1891 of South Carolina and Emma Louise Higgins 1843-1939 of South Carolina. The family moved to Harrison County, Texas before the Civil War, where Franklin worked as a school teacher, then served in the CSA Army, and they moved to Bell County, Texas after the war. Buelah married Joe W Hammack from Alabama in 1889 in Bell County, Texas. She and her sister, Eugenia married brothers. Her sister lived in Hardeman County, Texas with her family. Buelah and Joe were the parents of four known children. Buelah died in 1924 in Wichita Falls Texas of heart trouble, and her death certificate was signed by her sister, Eugenia Mays Hammack. Her death certificate indicates that she was buried in the Rogers City Cemetery, but no grave marker has been located for her.
