Jesse Briggs (from Waco Tribune Herald, 11/29/01, p. 2B) Jesse Lee Briggs, 77, of West, formerly of Bellmead, died Sunday, May 27, 2001 at a local hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Art Torpy officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Mr. Briggs was born Sept. 23, 1923, in Bandera County. He married the former Wilma Cepak on Feb. 12, 1946. He was a WWII veteran of the Army and served in Oregon, Fort Hood and Germany. He was a member of Sparks Memorial Methodist Church, SPJST Lodge No. 66, American Legion Post No. 121 and VFW No. 2148. Mr. Briggs retired from HEB grocery stores where he was employed for 38 years. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 27, 1980. Survivors include his children, Joyce Chudej of Waco and Jan and Don Lancaster of West; and 3 grandchildren. Memorials in Mr. Briggs' name may be made to West Volunteer Fire Department.
