Bio

Richard Otterpohl, 80, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at his home in Columbus. The funeral service will be Monday, June 30, 10:30 A.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with Father Mike Keating officiating. Interment will be in the All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Richard Otterpohl was born May 11, 1934, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Edward and Esther (Smith) Otterpohl. Richard attended school in Columbus and graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1952. Richard attended the University of Nebraska for a year before returning to Columbus. He went to work at Swanson's Grocery store where he worked for 45 years. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, was an avid book collector, and liked watching movies. Richard was a very friendly, sincere, and generous person who always enjoyed having coffee and visiting with his friends at Hyvee. Richard is survived by several cousins and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his father Edward Otterpohl, his mother Esther Campbell, and his stepfather Bill Campbell. Gass Haney Funeral Home.
