Bio

Pauline G. Nickel, 90 of Kearney died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Emeritus at Northridge Place. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. Fr. Alec Borzych will officiate and burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Axtell, Nebraska. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney are in charge of arrangements. Pauline was born March 1, 1924 in Aurora, Nebraska to George and Evelyn (Hunt) Mintun. She attended school in Kearney and later married Robert "Tom" Nickel on February 2, 1942 in Burbank, California where they started a family. Tom and Pauline moved back to Kearney in 1945. Pauline worked a variety of jobs including Bob's Quick Shop and the Hinky Dinky Bakery; usually while juggling the chores of being a mother to 8 children. She enjoyed decorating wedding cakes and also working on embroidery and crafts. She was also very involved in 4-H over the years. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Pauline is survived by her sons: Bob Nickel and his wife Lana of Champaign, IL, Dennis Nickel and his wife Ardie of Axtell, NE, Dan Nickel and his wife Diane of Lincoln, NE, daughters: Sue Woollen and her husband Ron of Wilcox, NE, Julie Rubin and her husband Stuart of Aurora, CO, Mary Harris and her husband Phil of Lincoln, NE, Deb Nickel of Kearney, NE, Diane Ketelsen and her husband Jim of Garland, NE, sisters: Bonnie Ellis of Alliance, NE and Helen and Chuck Wood of Plentywood, MT; 21 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren. Pauline was preceded in death by her Husband Tom Nickel in 2010; Parents; 1 Sister and 2 Grandchildren
