Bio

Doris Nell Blackburn, age 88 of Plano, TX, passed away June 1, 2014. She was born July 12, 1925 in Rockwall, TX, to Joe & Ethel (Duncan) DeWees. Doris was a school teacher with the Dallas Independent School District for 32 years. She had a Master's in Counseling, helped with Home Economics and Health classes and assisted students in obtaining jobs. Doris enjoyed sewing, cooking and hosting events, always making certain people were fed. She was an avid lake-goer and enjoyed water skiing even though she didn't want her hair to get wet. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband: C.L. Blackburn. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm, Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Chapel with Dr. Steve Leatherwood officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Rest Haven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Published by Rest Haven Funeral Home.
