There is a beautiful tree in Holy Cross Cemetery with a plaque underneath it that says, "IN MEMORY OF DICK LEWANDOWSKI".
Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Sunday, 14 October 1990 Richard A. Lewandowski, 46, of Billings, Mont., formerly of Ashton, died Monday, Oct. 1, at Billings. Mr. Lewandowski had cancer. Services were Friday, Oct. 5, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Billings. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Richard A. Lewandowski Children's Trust Fund,... Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary at Billings was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Lewandowski was born March 14, 1944, in Loup City, to Louis and Elizabeth Lewandowski. He graduated from Ashton High School and Kearney State College. On June 4, 1966, he married Joani Trumble in Cambridge. He taught school at Ravenna and at St. Patrick's in North Platte and also coached football, wrestling and track. In 1971, Mr. Lewandowski began working for Consolidated Freightways in North Platte. He was transferred to Billings in 1973. At the time of his death, he was terminal manager. Mr. Lewandowski was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, R.I.C.A. Program and the Cursillo Movement. He also served on the Yellowstone Safety Council and as chairman for the United Way. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Lisa, Juli and Amy, and one son, Brian, all of the home; his parents of Ashton; three brothers, Larry of Omaha, Gary of North Platte and Mike of Lincoln, and one sister, Mrs. Jim (Jean) Curlo of Ashton.
