GARWOOD - Leona Barrera, 79, of Garwood, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003. She was born Oct. 29, 1923, in Ellinger, to the late Cyril J. and Sophie Buzek Shimek. She was a homemaker and member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nada. She was a member of Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America. Survivors: husband, Abelino "Poncho" Barrera; sisters, Lydia Schoellmann, Martha Ott, and Ella Mae Merta, all of El Campo; and brother, Lawrence Shimek of Garwood. Preceded in death by: first husband, Lee Joseph; and infant daughter. Visitation will begin 11 a.m. today at Triska Funeral Home chapel. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home chapel. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rev. Joseph Koebel officiating.
