Mother's maiden name Wilson The Winona Daily News: Winona, Minnesota, Tue, Dec 12, 2000 Obituary Eldridge 'Smitty' Smith Aug. 8, 1911-Dec. 9, 2000 Eldridge 'Smitty' Smith, 89, of 366 W. Fourth St., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at St. Anne Hospice. He was a resident. Eldridge was born on Aug. 8, 1911, in Wilson, Minn. He married Margaret Goetzman in 1936 and later divorced. He married Harriet (Plinski) Schreiber in 1953. He served in the Civil Service/Conservation Corps as an airraid warden. He owned and operated Smitty's Texaco on Sarnia Street in his early years. He was a tool and die maker at Peerless Chain and then Asco Inc., where he retired. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Smitty enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping and tinkering around in the garage. His favorite pastime was sharing stories of his life experiences with his grandchildren. He is survived by his four children, Sally (Wayne) Reich of Rochester, Minn.; Sandra (Tony) Kalica of Beverly, Maine; Tim (Lori) Smith of Buffalo, Wis., and Cheryl Lange of Winona, Minn. Seven stepchildren, John (Sue) Schreiber of Winona, Mary Ann Moham (Larry Loken) of Winona, Paul (Ruthann) Schreiber of Pensacola, Fla., Irene (George) Forester of Pensacola, Diane (Jack) Simon of Winona, Ken (Betty) Schreiber of Winona, and Patricia (the late Leonard) Schreiber of Nelson, Wis.; 30 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. His wife, Harriet, and stepson, Leonard, preceded him in death. A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church, with preliminary Mass at 10 a.m. at Watkowska/Pronschinske Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The Rev. John M. Sauer will officiate. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Watkowska/ Pronschinske Funeral Home, where there will be a Christian wake service at 6 p.m.
