Kingsley News-Times: Jan. 19, 1933 J. P. Southwick, a resident of this community for years, passed away late Sunday evening at the Methodist hospital in Sioux City where he had been confined for four weeks taking treatment for a complication of diseases. Josiah Parker Southwick was born in Jones county, Iowa, January 23rd, 1866 and died in a Sioux City hospital Sunday evening, January 15th, aged 66 years, 11 month, 22 days. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two sons, Earl Southwick, of Kingsley, and Raymond Southwick, of Craig, Iowa; two daughters, Emma Southwick and Illa Bruning, of Kingsley, and six grand children, and three brothers, J. W. Southwick, of Winter Haven, Florida, O. E. Southwick, of Milwaukee, Wis., and Z. L. Southwick of Kingsley. Two brothers A. D. Southwick and M. E. Southwick, and two sisters, Iva Fitzgibbons and Emma Stiles proceeded him in death. In 1884 he moved with his parents to a farm in Plymouth county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage in 1894 with Mary Dannenbrock. They resided on the same farm until the spring of 1921, when they moved to Kingsley, where they lived until his death. Besides his relatives he leaves a wide circle of mourning friends. His was a kind, gentle and forgiving disposition. He waa a great lover of all outdoor sports in which he took an active part until his health prevented and his loss will be severely felt in the community. He was a member of the M. E. church of Kingsley, and of the T. S. Parvin Consistory No. 5, of Sioux City, also of the I. O. O. F. lodge, of Kingsley, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon of this week from the Methodist church, Rev. John B. Walker, minister, in charge. Interment made in the Kingsley cemetery, with the Kingsley Masonic lodge in charge of the services at the grave.
