Daniel Frank Zrubek, 86, of Waco, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 9, at St. Louis Catholic Church with Father John Gazaldo as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. led by the Knights of Columbus. Dan was born in Granger, Texas, to the late Frank Joe Zrubek Sr. and Anna (Zezulka) Zrubek, the fourth of eight children. He married Jacqueline Frederick on June 7, 1958, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waco with Msgr. J. J. Kearns officiating. After graduating from Granger High School, he was drafted to serve in the United States Army. He took his basic training at Camp Picket, Virginia. After completing basic training, he was assigned to the Office of Division Quartermaster of the 43rd Infantry Division and shortly after the 43rd Infantry Division was sent to Germany. He used his leave time to visit as much of Europe as time permitted while stationed in Germany. After completing his tour of duty in Germany, he was honorably discharged in Augsburg, Germany. He began his career with Owen-Illinois Glass Company in the Accounting and Customers Service Department. He retired after 41 years with the company. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1358 for more than 50 years. Dan enjoyed people and traveling. He and his wife and their two children traveled to many states on annual summer vacations. After the children were grown, Dan and Jackie continued to travel and completed vacations to all of the 50 states. They visited their favorite states many times. They then made trips to 42 European countries, Asia, Australia and South America. His favorite visits were to France, Germany, and the Czech Republic. He liked to travel, fish, bowl and spend time with family and friends. The proudest achievements of Dan's life were his roles as Jackie's loving husband and father his two devoted children, son David and daughter, Laura, and Grandad to his grandsons and granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edwin and Theodore Zrubek; and sisters, Elsie Zezulka and Dorothy Nardini. He is survived by his wife, Jackie; son, David and his sons, Daniel and Luke, of Lewisville, Texas; daughter, Laura Bower and husband, Merton, and their daughters, Katie and Jennifer, of Elyria, Ohio; brother, Frank Joseph Zrubek Jr., of Granger, Texas; sisters, Mary Ann Wallis and husband, A. J., of Austin, and Evelyn Allbritton, of Killeen; and many nieces, nephews, cousins; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law, and many friends. Waco Tribune-Herald: 5/6/2014 - 5/7/2014...K15
