Edith was the daughter of Thomas Francis Powers and Della Deborah Emerson Powers. She was born in Indian Territory, Oklahoma. She married James Everett Drake on 24 Dec 1922 in the Pleasant Valley Community of Jackson County, Oklahoma. They were parents of five girls. She died in Altus, Oklahoma from Breast Cancer.
