Bio
Bert Raymond Gillaspie, 90, of Chugwater passed away Aug. 22 in Cheyenne. Bert was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Diamond to Elvy and Jessie Hiatt Gillaspie. He graduated from Chugwater High School in 1935 and worked at various ranches in the area until his enlistment in the Army in 1942, serving at the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his return in 1945 he worked at the Chugwater Co-op and began farming and ranching until 2005. He was also employed by Laramie County School District #1, driving a school bus serving Chugwater for 25 years. He was a member of the Chugwater Historical Society, the Cheyenne Trap Club and instrumental in establishing the Chugwater Trap Club, as well as coaching Chugwater Little League for many years. Bert is survived by his wife, Juanita McCashland, whom he married on Nov. 4, 1949, in Kimball, Neb.; daughter, Carla Lofton of Cheyenne; son, David (Susan) Gillaspie of Shirley Basin; granddaughter, Casey Rohner; grandsons, Jed Lofton, John, A.J. and Cory (Tera) Gillaspie; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Wilma VanZee and Flossie Patterson; brothers Harold, Walter and Don; grandson Michael David Gillaspie; and son-in-law, Wayne Lofton.
