Ervin Mazour WOOD RIVER — Ervin Mazour, 74, of Wood River, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wood River. The Rev. Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Private burial services will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Wood River. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mr. Mazour was cremated. There will not be a visitation. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Wood River Rescue Unit or St. Francis Hospice. Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Mazour was born on Nov. 1, 1945, at Lawrence to Thomas and Mary (Pavelka) Mazour. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1943. He married Mary Erma Gilsdorf on Jan. 14, 1946, and farmed in the Lawrence area until 1957 when the family moved to a farm near Wood River. In 1970, Ervin joined Thelen Grain Co. as a partner and farm manager. He served as mayor and city council member of Wood River for a total of 17 years. He was president of the Business Association, Lions Club and Co-op, served on the school board, Fair Board, Wood River Country Club and board of St. Mary's Church. His greatest interest was raising cattle. He also enjoyed watching sports, golfing and fishing. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Thomas of Vienna, Austria, Jim of Sutton, Gary of Omaha, Mike of Marshalltown, Iowa and Scott of Grand Island; one daughter, Barbara (Mrs. Charles) McTavish of Wood River; three sisters, Dorothy Skalka of Deweese, Rose Theis of Hastings and Marilyn Schroer of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
