Jimmy Franklin Kubecka, 83, of Caldwell passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014 in Caldwell. He was born to John and Rosie (Courtney) Kubecka on July 27, 1930, arriving on his mother's birthday, feet first, in the Prairie Dale community. Jimmy graduated from Caldwell High School in 1948, and joined the Navy, proudly serving on the USS Rendova CVE-114. After his discharge, he went to work for the telephone company, where he met his future wife Stella Galyean. The couple married on March 9, 1951. Jimmy graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety's Highway Patrol school in 1953 and was stationed in Taylor. In 1956, he became the first Highway Patrolman to be stationed in Caldwell, working three counties. Jimmy later joined the Victoria County Sheriff's Department, spending nearly 20 years in law enforcement. In 1968 he went to work for Brown & Root, Inc. and was the "World's Greatest Safety Man", working around the world for the next 25 years. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Rose Marie Marshall He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Stella Galyean Kubecka of Caldwell, his son and daughter-in-law John and Karen Kubecka of McLeansville, NC; and his daughter Tammy Kubecka of Caldwell. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Bernice Kubecka of Mesquite; brother Otto Kubecka of Caldwell; and sister and brother-in-law Rachel and John D. Mastrovich of San Antonio, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services will be held at Prairie Dale-Phelps Cemetery with Chaplain John Boyd officiating. Honorary pallbearers are his 15 nephews, and his former B&R co-workers. (Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home)
