Additional info contributed by FAG member djtruitt: An obituary was published for David in the "Ottumwa Courier," on the day of his death, January 23, 1941. David Edward Eakins, 91, died at the St. Joseph Hospital at 12:30 a.m. For the last year he had been living with son, John A. Eakins, 333 Appanoose Street. Mr. Eakins was born in Ohio April 5, 1849, the son of John and Nancy Eakins. For the last 21 years he had lived in Ottumwa. For seventy-three years he had been a resident of Wapello County. Mr. Eakins came to Iowa in 1868 and was married to Miss Catheryn Elizabeth Baumche February 18, 1872. Survivors included sons, John A. of Ottumwa, Dr. C.F. Eakins of Brush, Colo., James H. and Charles E. of Ottumwa, Jesse M. of Kansas City, and a daughter, Rosette of Venice, California; brother, George of Ottumwa; and 14 grandchildren.
