Harold Jacobsen died March 31, 2014, at Emeritus Memory Care Center in Colorado Springs, CO. Harold, the youngest of six children, was born at home in the Eureka Valley Community May 20, 1938, to John H. and Gladys (Johnson) Jacobsen. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Lower Powell Canyon, and subsequently in 1940 to a farm in the Gates Community. Following grade school there, he graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1957. After spending a few months at farm work, he entered the U. S. Army where he served in the Security/Military Police in Korea. Upon completion of military service he became a member of the Nebraska State Patrol, and was stationed in Holdrege. He married Linda Kennedy of Arapahoe, NE in 1963. Having grown up in the country led to the decision to resign from the Patrol, and move to Colorado as a Ranch Manager. Later, they moved back to Nebraska, and after a brief time working for the Public Utility Company in Holdrege area, he signed on as Special Agent for Union Pacific Railroad. Initially stationed in Omaha, they transferred to Green River, WY in 1973. He and Linda later separated. Retiring from UPRR in 1995, he continued to call Green River home, even though he spent much of the next 3 years living near Chadron with brother Harry's family. He then lived in St. George, UT while spending most of one year driving cross country for a trucking company (" I get to see all this country for nothing"), plus lengthy visits to his daughters' families wherever they were living (Idaho, Wy., Germany, NY). The last few years in Green River he was a regular at the coffee shop with his "ole UP buddies" that were also retired. He, and good friend Dick Baxter, loved going to the cabin up in mountains south of Jackson, WY. He didn't even need an excuse. Some times he would drive up and stay overnight just because he enjoyed it so much. By 2011, it became obvious he could no longer reside alone. He went to stay with daughter Michelle and her family near Philadelphia, NY. March 2013 he moved to Heritage Hall in Broken Bow, and later to the Alzheimer's unit at Golden Living Center. He moved to Emeritus Memory Care Center in Colorado Springs in Oct. 2013 when his daughter Pennie relocated to Colorado. He is survived by daughter Pennie (Scott) Schultz of Colorado Springs, and granddtrs Ashley & Karlie; daughter Michelle (Kevin) Heflin of Philadelphia, NY, and granddtrs Heather & Tyler; Sisters Pauline Landreth of Broken Bow; Helen Koch of Shickley; Brothers Harry (Doris) of Chadron; Paul of Merna; and Loren (Cleo) of Broken Bow. Multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by parents John and Gladys; bro. in law Ken Koch; sister in laws Norene Jacobsen and Emily Jacobsen; plus nephews Duane and Jonathan Jacobsen, and niece Barbara Jacobsen Bull. Cremation was chosen with Mountain View Mortuary of Colorado Springs in charge. Memorial services planned for later this summer in Broken Bow. Harold will be remembered as an ambitious, hard working, friendly, individual who thoroughly enjoyed his work in law enforcement. He loved his family, hunting, going to the cabin in the mountains, and living in Wyoming.
