Wilson Fails to Realize He Last Great Wish Mrs. Rose E. Wilson "Gran'ma" to fellow patients and attendants at Jackson Mercy Hospital, died Wednesday at the age of 99 years, 11 months and one [day.] Death put an end to plans for a hospital party to celebration of her one hundredth birthday anniversary, May 16. Mrs. Wilson had looked forward to the party. "I want to live to be a 100," she said once, "Members of my family have been long-lived, but none reached that age. I want to outlive all of them." In keeping with that aim, Mrs. Wilson would often be the only patient "on her feet" despite the fact a doctor told her she'd never walk again after breaking a hip seven years ago. "Gran'ma" made a daily round of all patients' rooms. She had been at Jackson Mercy hospital four or five times the past six years, the last time since June. "Gran'ma" was born at Fayetteville, Ark., where she lived until coming here 13 years ago. Her husband, James F. Wilson, a soldier in the Civil war, died 35 years ago. It was during the Civil war that "Gran'ma," her husband away at war, a baby in her arms, was asked to take the body of a dead man to his folks, 15 miles away over rough, lonely roads. The men in the nationhood were afraid. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lena Moris, with whom she made her home at 336 Southeast Thirty-ninth street, and a granddaughter. Mrs. Jane Sloan, home address. Rites for "Gran'ma" will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Guardian chapel. Burial will be Friday in Fayetteville, Ark. Typed as originally printed.
