Bio

Gaston Wayne Hix, age 83, passed away April 1, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born on March 19, 1931 in Clifton, Texas to George C. Hix and Leta Smith Hix. He graduated from Clifton High School in 1946, where he earned a Lone Star Farmer Award. The family moved to Raymondville, Texas and he enrolled at Texas A&I College earning his B.S. Degree in Agriculture. Gaston was selected to accompany the first group of Santa Gertrudis bulls to Australia for the King Ranch. In 1953 he earned his Masters Degree in Education from Texas A&I Kingsville. He joined the U. S. Army in 1953 and served at Camp Hanford, WA, as a Guided Missile Fire Control Specialist. While stationed in Washington State he met and married his bride of 59 years. After moving to San Antonio, Texas he started his teaching career at East Central Elementary School. After moving to Corpus Christi, he taught High School Science at Tuloso-Midway Schools and Elementary grades at West Oso. He served as Principal at Carl Allen Elementary and Assistant Principal at West Oso High School for many years. He always said these years were his most enjoyable. He was a member of Moose Lodge 734 achieving his Pilgrim Degree. Gaston was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hix; 2 daughters, Melody Sue Baxter, and Robin Rene Hix; 3 granddaughters, Hailey Baxter, Illia Burriola, Abbey Favor; 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Interment to follow service at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
