Bio

Margaret R. Shonka, the daughter of Victor and Barbara (Kessler) Blazek was born January 16, 1913, at Creston, Iowa. She died suddenly on Thursday, October 3, 1996, at Immanuel Medical Center, Omaha, NE., at the age of 83 years old. She was raised and graduated from high school at Creston, and then attended nurses training at Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs. She was united in marriage to Dr. Thomas E. Shonka on May 15,1934, at Creston. They lived in Malvern from 1934 until 1960, when they moved to Clarinda. After Dr. Shonka retired in 1979, they moved to Red Oak. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Red Oak and American Legion Auxiliary of Malvern. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Margaret is survived by 3 daughters, Barbara, (Mrs. Daniel) Phelps of Red Oak, Mary Jean (Mrs. Lavern) Alberts of Denison and Judy (Mrs. Eldon) Kline of Eckert, CO; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Mass of Resurrection was held Monday, October 7, 1996, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Red Oak with Father Wm Kautzky officiating. Burial is in the Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak. Memorials may be directed to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation or St. Mary's Catholic Church. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
