Bio

Luvicey Bays was the daughter of Josiah Bays and Lettice Mayes. She was of Cherokee Indian descent. Her parents were apparently full blooded Cherokees. They left virginia, near Richmond, for Indiana before the Indians were driven out in the late 1820's or early 1830's. Lettice lived to be 102 yrs old. Luvicey and Thomas were married April 2, 1836 in Greene Indiana and they were the parents of 10 children. They were: Alexander born 1837, Esther born 1838, David L. born 1842, Mary born 1843, Ruhamie born 1846, she is buried in Bunch Cemetery in B erryville, Ark. William Thomas born 1848, Andrew Jackson McCollough born 1849, Milly Adaline born 1851, Margaret Levicey born 1853, she is buried in Bunch Cemetery also. Sarah Elizabeth was born 1856. We have not been able to find a grave for Luvicey or Thomas so I am adding them to the Liberty Cemetery for that is where some of their children are buried. One of the grandsons told me that Thomas went to the gold fields and never came back. It is said that she died in Osage Township, Newton Co, Ark. If anyone knows where she and Thomas are buried the family would like to know and we will correct this information. Siblings of Luvicey were: Elizabeth Bays Walter C Bays Chloe bays Olinger Alfred Bays Josiah C Bays Amelia Bays Watson Andrew Jackson Bays Joseph Mays Bays James Bays Joshua Bays Mary Ann (Polly) Bays Uland
