Johnnie August Schramm Sr., 77, of Warda, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Monument Hill Rehab and Nursing Center in La Grange. Johnnie was born in Warda, Texas on October 22, 1936, the son of Walter and Hattie (Hobratschk) Schramm. Johnnie married Rose Mary Janda on May 18, 1957 in Plum, Texas. He began his 35 years of dedicated service with the United States Department of Agriculture in June, 1957 as a Field Reporter with the Wharton County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS). He continued his career with the USDA as General Clerk, Counter Clerk, ACP Clerk, Program Operations Specialist, and Chief Program Assistant. From 1971 until 1976 he was appointed and served as the Executive Director for the Wharton County ASCS, and from 1976 until his retirement in 1992, as the Executive Director for the Fayette County ASCS. Johnnie served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1953 to 1968. Johnnie enjoyed playing guitar and steel guitar with various bands throughout the years, including Jesse Lee and the Texas Valley Boys of La Grange, the Moonlighters Dance Band of Rosenberg, the South Texas Bohemian Cowboys of El Campo, and the Good Hearted Cowboys of Giddings, as well as playing backup for Jeannie C. Riley ("Harper Valley P.T.A."), singer-songwriter Wanda Jackson, and singer-songwriter Bobby Lewis. In 1969 he played a two-week engagement in the Gold Room at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is survived by four daughters and one son: Debra Wolfram and husband, Mark of Buena Vista, Colorado; Donna Faldyn and husband, Ivan of La Grange; Dianne Moore and husband, Kenneth of La Grange; Johnnie Schramm Jr. and wife, Frances of Swiss Alp and Danette Schramm of Warda; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three sisters and one brother: Adeline Pietsch of Nechanitz; Annie Mae Fick of Pinehurst; James Schramm and wife, Cedell of Warda; Mary Ann Pietsch and husband, Collin of Warda; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers; Gus Schramm Sr., Walter Schramm Jr. and infant sister, Joyce Ruby. Burial will follow services at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Warda. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home 208 W. Pearl, La Grange, Texas.
