Bio

Our finest example of Christ-like love, Denece Poma Howlett left us unexpectedly to return to her Father in Heaven on October 26, 2006. Denece was born on August 9, 1937 in Lehi, Utah to Louie Joseph Poma and Cleo Ashton Poma. She married R. Dale Howlett, her childhood sweetheart, in the Salt Lake Temple on October 7, 1954. They shared 52 wonderful years together. Denece was the perfect example of selflessness. She loved her family immensely and unconditionally. She devoted her life to her husband, her sons, her niece and nephews and later their families as well as her mother and father. Her family was all important to her and she loved to gather them around her. There was no one more proud of the accomplishments of each family member, no matter how great or small. Denece was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren and they have learned goodness and kindness from her example. She loved to take them camping and taught them to enjoy the beauties of nature as she did. Denece was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and diligently served in numerous ward callings. Denece counseled women in the Prison Branch for several years. With her loving example she influenced many in the paths of righteousness. She also did extraction work at home for many years. Denece especially loved serving in the Jordan River Temple with her husband for the past several years where she was loved by all whose lives she touched. Denece worked alongside her husband and sons for most of her life in the family egg production business. She was dedicated to making it a success. By her own example she taught her sons and grandchildren the value of hard work. She taught many other children to work as well. Denece also took time to develop her talents and made many beautiful ceramic figurines, most of which she gave away to friends and family. Denece spent countless hours giving service. She made many warm hats for children, countless crocheted blankets for babies and numerous quilts for homeless people. She was always ready to lend a hand, or a meal, or a shoulder, or a listening ear to someone in need. Denece is survived by her loving husband, Dale; sons, Kevin (Sandra), Steven (Lisa), and Brad (Mary Ann); nephews, Todd Kemp (Julie), Craig Kemp (Elena); niece, Kim Michaeli (David); seven grand-children; five grand-nephews and one grand-niece; five great-grandchildren; mother, Cleo Poma. Denece was preceded in death by her father Louie Poma, infant son, Brian, sister, Bonnie Kemp, and her husband Phillip Kemp and grand-daughter, Jessica Howlett. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 30, 2006 at the Draper Eleventh Ward, 1617 E. 12700 S., Draper. Friends and family may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 S., and at the church from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. on Monday prior to the service.
