Bio
Carolyn Theresa Mahdak Nemec was born April 24, 1916, in Ennis, Texas, and passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, in Dallas, Texas. Her parents were Czech immigrants John Mahdak from Ostrate, Czechoslovakia, Frances Pavlicek Mahdak from Hrobice, Czechoslovakia. Carolyn grew up in a home immersed in Czech language, music and tradition. As a child, her dad told her, her three sisters and five brothers fairy tales at bedtime. Carolyn is survived by her last youngest living brother, Bernard Mahdak, his wife, Julie, children, Andy Mahdak and his wife Janye; and their son, Zack, and his wife Samantha, and children, Autumn, Colton and Makenzie; and son Houston; and daughter Laura Gosness and her husband Jim, and son, Sean. Her three sisters, Mary Mahdak Mikus, Frances Mahdak Crane, Wilma Mahdak Gribbin, and her other four brothers John, Gerard, Lewis and George Mahdak, are deceased. Carolyn joined Sokol in Ennis when she was 18 and became the Women's instructor. A number of the Ennis Sokol gymnasts became members of the Beseda dance circle which performed at the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition. In 1937 Carolyn moved to Dallas where she worked as a nanny until she married George William Nemec, Sr. on November 17, 1940, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Ennis. Carolyn is survived by her five children, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. They are: Daughter, Carole Annette Nemec Faraizl, husband Ray, their children Ray, Jr., Renee Oberle, her husband, David, Sr., their daughter, Nocole, and their son, David Jr. and his wife, Brianna; and Faraizi children Adam and Mandy, George William Nemec, Jr., and his daughter, Alice and her partner, Chris Barnes, and George's son, Chris. She is also survived by daughter, Margaret Holub, and step-son, Preston Peterson and his wife, Kimberly, and sons Caleb, Jonah and Issac; son, Ed Nemec and his wife Krissi, and their daughter Delaney. Also by daughter Liz Opiela and her husband, Robert, Liz's son, Sean and wife, Maggie and their daughters Chloe and Adelaide, and Liz's daughter, Carly and husband, Rob Acox and their sons Xander and Sam. Carolyn's husband, George, preceded her in death on May 6, 1971.
