Bio

Born July 1, 1839 in house #23 in Chotebudice, Moravia, Austrian Empire (now in the Czech Republic), the daughter of Johan Virgil and Katherina Dolezel (daughter of Anton Dolezel). Married Simon Maly on June 16, 1863 in Chotebudice. Sister of Katherine (Virgl) Janak . Emigrated to the United States with her husband and children in 1874. The passenger list for the ship Berlin , which arrived in Baltimore, Maryland from Bremen, Germany on May 30, 1874, includes the following family from Bohemia, bound for Nebraska: Simon Maly, 44, laborer; Maria, 35; Francisca, 9; Maria, 4; Katherine, 9 months; and Anna Tabian, 49. Settled in Butler County, Nebr. in 1875. According to the 1880 census she was 36 years old, born Bohemia, and lived in Franklin Township, Butler County, Nebr. with her husband Simon and four children: Franceska (15, Bohemia), Mary (10, Bohemia), Katie (7, Nebr.), and Joseph (4, Nebr). The 1900 census states she was born August 1844 in Bohemia, emigrated to the United States in 1874, had been married 35 years, was the mother of 7 children, 5 living, and lived in Franklin Township with her husband and son Standley (born May 1880 in Nebr.). '''''''''' Brainard Clipper (Brainard, Nebr.), May 17, 1923, p. 4, col. 5 BRUNO ITEMS Mrs. Mary Maly died at her home on Friday morning at one o'clock, at the age of 80 years. She had been in poor health for a number of months. The funeral was held from the Catholic church at two o'clock Sunday afternoon with interment in the Catholic cemetery, and was attended by a large number of friends. Mrs. Maly was the widow of Simon Maly, and they lived for many years at Appleton, moving to Bruno when they retired from farm life a number of years ago. Mrs. Maly is survived by one son, Joseph, of Bruno, and three daughters, Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Danielwicz of Omaha and who were both present at the funeral, and one daughter living in Wyoming who was unable to come. One son, Stanley, died at his home near Garland last February.
