VICTORIA - Melton C. "Buddy" DeDear age 87 of Victoria, TX passed into eternal rest Saturday, March 1, 2014. He was born March 16, 1926 in Cuero, Texas to Fred and Lydia DeDear. Loving husband who was married for 64 years to Ruby L. Brune DeDear. Buddy had one child, a daughter, Linda Ann DeDear Poole. Pallbearers will be Jason Cassell, Nathon Cassell, Jaizac Garcia, Mason Neuendorff, Dennis Kucherka, Larry Zajicek, Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Mock, Donald DeDear and Jerry DeDear. Buddy served in the Navy during World War II as Seaman First Class aboard the USS Buckingham (APA141) 14 months sea duty American Area Campaign Asiatic-Pacific Area World War II Victory. Received a heartfelt thank you letter from President Harry Truman and General Omar N. Bradley. Retired after 35 years with Trunkline Gas Company and during his retirement owned Buddy's Lawnmower Repair Shop until the age of 86. Preceded in death by his parents, Fred DeDear and Lydia Lee DeDear, his brothers, Freddy James DeDear, Ralph DeDear and Neal DeDear, his sisters, Rose Gavlik, Florence Fuller, Maudell Ragnow, Joyce Hesse, granddaughter-in-law, Misty Cassell, and great grandson, Michael C. Cassell. Survived by wife, Ruby L. DeDear of Victoria, Texas, daughter, Linda Ann Poole and husband Jeffrey R. Poole of Victoria, Texas, brothers, Donald R. DeDear and wife Pat of Victoria, Texas and Jerry DeDear and wife Lillie of Harding, Texas, sister, Dovie Hess of Cuero, Texas, grandchildren, Jason C. Cassell of Spring, Texas, Nathon L. Cassell and wife Tiffany of Houston, Texas and Kayla R. Cassell of Houston, Texas, great grandchildren, Jaizac C. Garcia, Jaiden X. Garcia and Jaicee C. Garcia of Houston, Texas, Brian L. Mock, Chelsea M. Robson and Faith Ann-Marie Cassell of Spring, Texas. He also had numerous nieces and nephews. Buddy loved to hunt and fish all of his life which he shared with his daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He especially loved fishing and hunting with his youngest brother, Donald R. DeDear. These were some of Buddy's fondest memories and his family would gather to hear his stories of who caught the biggest fish. Buddy touched all of our lives with his smile, twinkling blue eyes, his bountiful love and his broad shoulders to listen to us all in good and bad times. Funeral Mass and burial will follow rosary at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus, Texas.
