Transcribed and submitted by Franklin Shemek. Nance County Journal - November 21, 1963 MRS. CHARLES J. SMITH Mrs. Charles J. Smith was born on August 6, 1881, in Platte county, Nebraska, and died November 6, 1963, at Sterling, Colorado, at the age of 82 years. When she was a small child the family moved to a ranch near Gordon in Cherry county where her father died. Her mother was married in 1896 to Conover Kennedy of near North Star in Nance county. On January 8, 1898, she was married to Charles J. Smith at the Kennedy home. The family moved from Fullerton in 1917 to Sterling, Colorado, where they have since resided. The couple observed their 64th wedding anniversary this year. She was a member of the Sterling Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Elma Dickinson of Sterling, Colorado; four sons; Elbert Smith of Sterling, Colorado; Russell Smith of Atlanta, Georgia; Donald Smith of Dallas, Texas; and Charles Smith of Denver, Colorado. She was preceded in death by a son, Milford Smith, who died in 1960, and two infant sons. Funeral services were held at the Walters-Chaney Funeral Home at Sterling; Colorado, on November 8. Graveside services were conducted on November 9 at the Fullerton Cemetery by Rev. Norman L. Crounse, pastor of the Fullerton Methodist Church.
