Edward Hanzel died suddenly following a brief illness at West Point Memorial hospital Oct. 30. He was born at Dodge, Sept. 10, 1893, the son of Frank and Anna Hanzel. He attended Dodge high school, Fremont Normal and the University of Nebraska. He was married April 17, 1917 to Agnes Turek. The couple had seven children all of whom survive. They are, Mrs. Eldon Janecek, (Margaret), Mrs. Ray L. Schulze, (Audrey) and Edward J., all of Dodge; John A., Hastings and Mrs. Nick Wackel (Frances), North Bend; Frank J., Waterloo, and 1st Lt. Richard D. Hanzel, stationed in Japan. Mr. Hanzel was born and raised in Dodge, went to Dante, S. D. in 1915 and in 1931 moved to a farm near Dodge. He retired in 1946 and lived in David City until 1948 when he moved to Beemer. He was a teacher for three years, bank cashier for six years, rural mail carrier for 11 years, farmed for 15 years, operated the Bee Theatre for 10 years, and for the past three years was fully retired. Mr. Hanzel was a Catholic workman and member of Holy Cross church in Beemer. Survivors besides his widow and children are 25 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Fannie Glodowski, Los Angeles; brothers, J. [Jim] S. Hanzel, Burley, Ida.; E.[Emil] J. Hanzel, Rupert Ida.; Frank J., Dodge and Joseph, Howells. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
