Bio

Melvin P. Smith, 97, of the Sharon Community died Wednesday, April 1, 2009, in Ellisville. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4 at Shows Cemetery. Rev. Roger Pruitt will officiate. He was a retired fireman with the Laurel Fire Department and a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Beech Smith; and two sons: Melvin Harold Smith and Clarence David Smith. Pallbearers will be men from the Laurel Fire Department. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, April 3 at Memory Chapel of Laurel, which is in charge of the arrangements. ------------------ Melvin changed his name from Melvin Pinkleton to Melvin Paul in the first grade.
