Leonard George Vyhlidal Sr. June 20, 1928 ~ November 13, 2007 The memorial Mass for Leonard G. Vyhlidal Sr., 79, of Fremont will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. He died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, at Fremont Area Medical Center. He was born June 20, 1928, in North Bend to John and Helen (Pavel) Vyhlidal. He grew up in North Bend and was a graduate of North Bend High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Sept. 10, 1946, to Dec. 30, 1947. He moved from North Bend to Fremont in 1951 and was employed at Hormel Foods Corporation. He returned to North Bend and operated the Dairy Dream from 1965 to 1972. In 1976, he returned to Fremont and owned and operated Len's Liquor Store until 1982. He married Helen Vavak on Dec. 29, 1951, at St. John's Catholic Church in Prague. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont, American Legion Post 20 of Fremont, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8223 of North Bend and was a former member of the North Bend Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include: his wife; a son, Leonard Vyhlidal Jr. of Fremont; two daughters, Carol (Mrs. Doug) Dale of Fremont and JoAnn (Mrs. Francis) Zakovec of Morse Bluff; a sister, Leona Loehr of Fremont; five grandchildren, Jeff and Jason Dale, Mike Albert, Ryan and Brent Zakovec; and four great-grandchildren, Allison, Abbey and Ethan Dale and Haley Zakovec. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters; a sister, Wilma Chromy; and three brothers, Edward, John and Emil Vyhlidal. The Rev. Ron Battiato will officiate Saturday's service. There is no visitation, however, the register book may be signed from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. The book signing continues one hour prior to service time Saturday at the church. The United States flag will be presented by the Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post 854 and American Legion Post 20 at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
