Bio

Norma J. Marco, 79, of Grand Island died on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Apfel Funeral Home. Pastor Bob Rhodes will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Mrs. Marco was born on April 8, 1934, in Akron to George and Fern (Giersdorf) Pontious. She married Donald Marco on Jan. 11, 1953, in Grand Island. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband; a daughter, Sherry Lee Marco, and Audrey Glaser of Pflugerville, Texas; a son, Timothy J. Marco of Grand Island; a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Barbara Pontious of Grand Island; and a sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Gary Jensen of Harvard. Also left to cherish her memory are three granddaughters, Amanda Scarrow of Kearney, Tara Cottingham of Shelton and Cassandra Daniels of Vicenza, Italy; and seven great-grandchildren. She grew up in Akron, later moving to Grand Island, where she received her education, graduating from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1952. She and Donald made their home in Grand Island, where she was a nurse's aide and later was employed as a dental assistant. She was a member of the Lutheran faith. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and fishing, along with her flowers and cooking. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to longtime family friend Donna Morse for her support. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, George Pontious Jr.; a nephew, Michael Pontious; and infant sisters, Georgia and Maxine.
