Bio

Ken "Edg" Edgel passed away unexpectedly on February 10, 2013. He was born November 26, 1934 to Ken D. and Bessie A. Rasmussen in Fountain Green. They preceded him in death. Ken married Clea Keetch on January 18, 1977. Ken loved his childhood, his family, and friends. He was raised in Fountain Green and Garfield. When he looked at the mountains, he saw their rugged beauty, but always wondered what might be on the other side of that mountain. That curiosity lead him on a lifetime of travel adventures in the US, Mexico, Central America, and Europe. Everywhere Ken went, he had fun, whether it was sledding on McKinley Hill, driving his prized red and white 1956 Oldsmobile, or spending weekends in pursuit of the perfect game of golf. He attended Cyprus High School and the University of Utah and was a talented athlete, playing football, handball, and skiing. Ken joined the Utah Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Sergeant and happily spent his overseas tour in France serving in an Army hospital. He was happy that the Army was "kind enough" to ship his 1956 Oldsmobile with him so that he and his friends could easily enjoy touring the countryside and towns of France and Germany. Ken spent memorable weekends at Hidden Valley Country Club enjoying friends and his favorite sport. He was an exceptional golfer and achieved a 7 handicap. To round out his athletic accomplishments, he was also a wonderful dancer. Ken loved everything about the business world and after working in the insurance business for many years. He opened Bonneville Brokers, which he owned and operated for sixteen years. He merged with American Insurance & Investment in 2000 and retired in 2008. He was highly regarded as a trusted advisor and risk manager in the insurance industry and was very proud to receive the Agent of the Year Award in 1997 from the Utah Association of Independent Insurance Agents. Ken was an active member in many associations, including Blue Goose and Thunderbirds. Ken is survived by his wife, Clea; his son, Jeff (Debra); daughter, Jan Jensen; grandson, Dallin Rasmussen; granddaughter, Paige Rasmussen; three siblings, Gay Rokich, Phil (Lois), and Susan Amidon (David); four nephews and nieces; and seven great-nephews and great-nieces. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street, Salt Lake City. Friends may visit on Friday, February 15, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Saturday. A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Hidden Valley Country Club, 11820 South Highland Drive, Sandy. Published in the Salt Lake Tribune from February 13 to February 14, 2013.
