Benjamin Stephen “Ben” Shubert was born on 09 March 1923, to Frank and Theresa “Tracy” Wolf Shubert, in rural Danube, Renville County, Minnesota. Ben attended school in Renville County. On 06 June 1943, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn, Benjamin Stephen married Helen Marie Serbus, the daughter of William Henry “Bill” and Barbara Anna Korbel Serbus. Helen Marie Serbus was born on 10 September 1923 in Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota. After their marriage, Ben and Helen settled on a farm seven miles south of Danube. This was their home for seven years when they moved to their farm northwest of Olivia. Ben’s wife, Helen Marie Serbus Shubert, died at the age of 49, at the Masonic Memorial Hospital, University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Benjamin Stephen “Ben” Shubert died at the age of 71 on 05 September 1994, in Edina, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Ben was survived by five children, Barbara (Jerome) Fischer, Richard (Marcia) Shubert, Marie (Richard) Harter, Margaret (Mike) Kelly, and Renee; several grandchildren; and, sisters, Lucille (Edward J.) Wertish, and Helen (Gilbert) Bratsch. Benjamin was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, his parents, brothers, Joseph and Bernard Shubert, and two infant children. Benjamin was buried next to his wife in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota.
