KAYSVILLE - Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Melva Smedley Sheffield, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 1991. She was born July 11, 1909, in Syracuse, Utah, a daughter of Henry Sturton and LaVerna Nancy Thornley Smedley. She was raised in Layton, Utah and graduated from Davis High School. She married James F. (Jay) Sheffield, October 12, 1927, in the Logan LDS Temple. Resided for the past 64 years in Kaysville. She worked at Intermountain Woolen Mills. Retired as a dietary supervisor for Davis High School. After retiring she continued to provide love and joy to all she knew with her talents of crocheting and doll making. She will always be remembered for the exceptional crocheted dresses and quilts that she so lovingly made and provided. Surviving are her husband, James F. (Jay) Sheffield; one son, Hal Smedley Sheffield, both Kaysville; three grandchildren, Jessica Sheffield, Tucson, Ariz.; Corey Sheffield, Salt Lake City; Annette Will, Las Vegas, Nevada; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Alene Pantone, Vera Evans, Mary Graistite, Pauline Wallace and Exer Storey. Our family knows that she has gone to spend Christmas with her father, mother and two brothers, who preceded her in death. Services will be held Friday, December 27, 1991, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main, where friends may call Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 12:45-1:45 p.m. Interment: Kaysville City Cemetery.
