Walter Thornley Smedley, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, age 69, passed away Monday, August 12, 1991. He was born July 13, 1922 in Layton, Utah, a son of Henry S. and LaVerna Thornley Smedley. He married Edna Mae Clark, August 7, 1942 in Logan, Utah; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was educated in the Davis County schools. Graduated from Davis High School. He was a lifelong resident of Layton, Utah. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Air Transport Command. He was a member of the Utah Automobile Dealer's Association. A past president of the Layton Kiwanis Club, a member of the Salt Lake Exchange Club, and an honorary Colonel of the Salt Lake Police Force. He was also a member of the Ogden Golf and Country Club. He worked at Olsen Chevrolet Co. in Layton for over 20 years. He was co-owner and general manager of Streater Chevrolet Co. in Salt Lake, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed golfing and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Layton; two sons, W. Joel and wife, Louise Smedley, Layton; Lynn H. Smedley, Kaysville; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Chad, Tricia. Also surviving are six sisters, Melva Sheffield, Kaysville; Vera Evans, Layton; Aliene Pantone, Ogden; Mary Garsteit, California; Pauline Wallace, Missouri; Exer Storey, Ogden. Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 a.m. at the Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1074 No. Fairfield Rd., where friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment in the Kaysville City Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by VFW Honor Guard.
