John J. Rerucha, died January 28, 2014 at David Place, David City, Nebraska. John was born on August 16, 1918 on the family farm near Bruno, Nebraska to John and Agnes (Novacek) Rerucha. John lived in the Bruno, Nebraska area until 1942 when he was drafted in the army. He served in the Artillery Division upon his induction until joining the Army Reserves where he served until his honorable discharge on Jan. 31, 1946. His tour of duty included the European Theater, fighting in central Europe and the Rhineland Campaigns. He was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars during this time. He was a gunman on a 155 Howitzer, remaining in the occupied theater until his end of tour duty. Upon his discharge, he married Anna Samek on Sept. 14, 1946 at Assumption Catholic Church, Appleton, Nebraska. They moved to a farm near Abie, Nebraska where he raised grain and livestock. They belonged to Sts. Peter and Paul Church, where he was a trustee for many years. He also served as a treasurer for the Abie (NE.) School District and was a member of the volunteer fire department. They moved off the farm in 1984, building a house in David City, Nebraska. He kept busy helping out local farmers and building houses with his brother-in-law, Bill Samek. John took great pride in his yard and garden appearance. John was preceded in death by: parents; wife, Anna Rerucha in 2008 and brothers, Frank and Victor Rerucha. Funeral Mass was Monday, 10:00 AM, February 3, 2014 at St. Mary's Church, David City, Nebraska with Fr. Bernard Kimminau as celebrant. Burial was in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Bruno, Nebraska.
