Bio

Willie Mae Baber of Bennington, Oklahoma passed from this life and joined her Savior on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at age of 101 years, 3 months, 18 days. She was born Thursday, November 13, 1913 to Lucy Mertice (Chesnut) Thompson and Walter Ollie Thompson in Cooper, Texas. Willie had a strong faith in God and chose to be a member of the Baptist Church. After moving to Bokchito as a young girl in the Dodson community, she met the love of her life Vernon Jesse Baber. They were married December 11, 1931 at Mead Oklahoma, married 64 years. Willie Mae (Thompson) Baber is survived by four children; Eleven grandchildren [ William Jesse Baber ]; Seventeen great grandchildren; Nine great, great grandchildren; a Brother and Sister-in-law. Willie was preceded in death by her husband Vernon J. Baber, son Dwain Baber, son in law Philip H. Foreman, grandson Jack Baber and grandson in law Steve Armstrong, brothers Chastain Thompson, Forrest Thompson, Lloyd Thompson, Sisters- Christeen Noland, Ruth Tadlock, Faye Jones, her parents Walter Ollie Thompson and Lucy Mertice (Chesnut) Thompson, her father in law- William J. Baber and Mother in law- Rosamond Zella (Plunkett) Baber. Willie celebrated her 100th birthday Sunday November 24, 2013 at Bennington School Cafeteria with over 100 family and friends. A beautiful decorated party with purple balloons, family pictures and a huge 4 tier birthday cake with punch to finish the occasion. On her 101st birthday, November 13, 2014 at Calera Nursing home and being the oldest resident they celebrated by releasing 101 purple helium balloons and what a beautiful sight as the balloons floated away in the beautiful sunlight. Residents of the home loved Willie and she was named "Granny and Granny B" and loved by all. Services will be at Faith Baptist Church, Bokchito, Oklahoma 10:00 A.M. Monday March 09, 2015 with Bro. Scott Melton and Bro. John Baber officiating. Interment will follow services at Bokchito Cemetery, Bokchito Oklahoma.
